NY Sky

Last Fourth of July, you and I were watching the New York sky
On the East River on a sultry night
With a multitude looking for colour and light
I drank my first margherita, and then
Put the ocean between us again
.

Now you're on the beach with your baby
And I'm here with my ticking bomb
Which we know could blow at any time
And flatten a home
I didn't expect the explosion
I watched the debris fly
And home isn't who or where it was
Last Fourth of July.

Last Fourth of July, you and I were watching the New York sky
On the East River on a sultry night
With a multitude looking for colour and light
I drank my first margherita, and then
Put the ocean between us again
.

Now I live in a city
In a room with a rooftop view
Balloons float by on the evening sky
And I've framed a picture of you
I live in a city
I'd only known by day
And the heat and light of that New York night
Are an ocean away.

Last Fourth of July, you and I were watching the New York sky
On the East River on a sultry night
With a multitude looking for colour and light
I drank my first margherita, and then
Put the ocean between us again
.
